The history of the production of olive oil dates back many centuries. The first evidence of this production on the Sorrento Peninsula was during the age of the Greek Colonies. The inhabitants produced olive oil by grinding the olives in an old mill, made of lime stone. The Sorrento Peninsula is surrounded by terraced hills with olive trees and here stands the “FRANTOIO GARGIULO” that produces extra virgin olive oil. Here one can visit the olive grove and the techniques of cultivation and harvesting, the old mill with its history the modern mill with all its techniques of oil extraction and finally extra virgin oil tasting on fresh bread. The tour lasts one hour approximately.
